I’m still decompressing from the Alaska adventure, following a
week-and-a-half of hard birding. But, it
was a nice 60º
F day, and I needed to get out of the house, so later in the
morning, I drove down toward town and walked the South Capitol Lake trail.
The trail is maintained by the State of Washington’s
Department of Enterprise Services, and you can make a few side ‘loops’.
There are a few hundred wigeon on the lake, and the usual Canada Geese and Mallards loafing on the old "fishing docks" (no fishing is currently allowed on the lake).
I saw
three or four mixed-species flocks, with a couple dozen warblers and all three
vireo species.
